the artist

Tawnie is a mixed media artist whose passion is helping beginner and professional artists alike overcome fear in their artistic journeys. She lives in Southern California with her husband, their beautiful two year old daughter, and two cats.

Tawnie has been drawing since before she can remember. Her family legacy is thick with artists going back to her great grandmother, an accomplished oil painter, and her grandparents, who met at Art Center. Her parents are both artists as well and always encouraged her in her artistic endeavors.

She grew up on a ranch in Southern California and is forever inspired by the beauty of animals and nature. Tawnie was given the opportunity to work in the film industry and worked in the art department for several years on multiple tv shows. Her art has been featured on networks such as Showtime, USA, AMC and more. This job encouraged her to keep pursuing her life long passion of becoming a professional artist.

Becoming a mother also gave her even more motivation to show her daughter that she can do anything that she puts her mind to. In 2024, Tawnie began to share what she calls her “ugly” sketchbook in order to find creative freedom herself and it blossomed into something beautiful. She also has started sharing longer format tutorials on YouTube with the hopes of helping even more people. With over 188,000 followers on Instagram she receives messages and comments every day from people who are encouraged to begin their own “ugly” sketchbook journey.

She is so excited that so many people are finding joy and freedom in their art again or maybe for the first time.
